This was s reminder today from Don Marsh, Manager of the Hickory Social Security Office. He was speaking of part-time and tem porary workers in the comb* holiday shopping season. Work of short duration is covered by the Social Security program and employers are required to withhold FKA contributions (tom each employee’* pay. This of course must be matched with an equalamounthytheemployer and wages reported on a quarterly tax return filed with Internal Revenue Service. One or more employees must be reported, regardless of the amount of wages paid, so a small employer has the same re sponsibility as one with many employeea. The employer can save him self a lot of headaches, March . said, by getting the correct nodal security number and name at the time the employee goes to work.
